Every HVW needs a great basic Chocolate Smoothie recipe in her repertoire!
Whether you are brand new to raw food or more experienced, you will love this recipe and the fact that it takes just 1 minute to make!
Please note: This particular recipe is quite rich, and also calorie-dense if you use the cashews, so bear this in mind when serving! Less is often more 🙂
Equipment required
- Measuring cups
- Blender
Ingredients
- 1 cup of cashew nuts {NB: The cashews give the smoothie a more creamy flavour and texture than any other nutt, however, if you have a nut allergy to prefer to eat less nuts, substitute with 1/2 – 1 banana according to taste.}
- 3 cups of pure still water
- 3 Medjool dates
- 1/2 cup of raw chocolate powder (a.k.a. cacao powder)
- OPTIONAL: 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence/small piece of vanilla pod
Directions
- Put ALL of the ingredients into the blender.
- Blend until smooth.
- Serve in a tall glass or large wine glass, whatever takes your fancy!
Bonus tips
- Pour any excess mixture into an ice-cube tray and put in the freezer. This is perfect for when you have a chocolate craving and nothing in the house! Simply pop out and enjoy sucking on one or two “frozen chocolate chunks”, and your chocolate craving will be gone for a good few hours to come!
- Alternatively (or also!) pour the mixture into a Tupperware container and put that in the freezer. You’ll end up with a tub of raw chocolate ice-cream which can be spooned out once successfully frozen.
- This smoothie will also keep well in the fridge for around 24 hours.
